Industry: Semiconductors  |  HQ: Eindhoven, Netherlands  |  Use Case: Internal and external IT Labor Cost Allocation, Vendor Billing

The Challenge

For a global semiconductor organization running hundreds of engineers and dozens of vendor relationships, project time data isn't an HR formality—it's the financial record that determines how costs are classified, and how vendors get paid. NXP Semiconductors' IT organization leverages ClickTime to do exactly that.

NXP IT uses contractors for flexibility, specialized expertise and bridging skill gaps, alongside full-time employees, across a large portfolio of enterprise applications and infrastructure, to serve business needs and purpose. Accurate time capture isn't optional. It's what makes it possible to define needed capacity, pay vendors, charge business units correctly, and give leadership a view on ROI.

The Solution

NXP uses ClickTime as the system of financial record for its IT organization—tracking hours and costs across a significant pool of engineers, both employees and contractors. The deployment is built around financial precision: cost centers, IT-funded vs. business-funded project designations, and phase-level tracking that supports clean cost classification across every project in the portfolio.

That last point matters more than it might seem. Accounting rules prohibit capitalizing certain activity types. NXP uses ClickTime's phase structure to enforce that separation automatically, so the classification is built into the workflow rather than reconciled after the fact. And when financial conditions shift, the configuration adapts.

"Project-based financial planning and actuals require proper governance and reporting based on activity types. We can meet that requirement by setting things up the right way in ClickTime."— Sundeep Jain, Enterprise AI Strategy, Cloud and Digital Infrastructure Leader, NXP Semiconductors

The Impact

Vendors get paid periodically as per vendor contract without fail.

The most direct measure of ClickTime's value at NXP is operational: the system is how contractors get paid. Hours logged flow into monthly totals, rates are held in ClickTime, and vendor invoices are reconciled against what was actually worked. There is no parallel process, no manual check.

"The source of truth is ClickTime. We have the tariff in ClickTime, we know how many hours they worked, and that accumulates into the month. At the end of the month, the vendor needs to get paid—and we can do the financial reconciliation through ClickTime."

Historical data anchors investment decisions.

Ten years of project time data is a strategic asset. When NXP evaluates a new project, cost estimates are grounded in what comparable past projects actually cost—giving leadership a factual anchor for go/no-go decisions rather than theoretical projections. For example, if a project ran at $400K–$500k budget, a slightly smaller follow-on would be sized at or below $400k with confidence. That's the difference between a budget conversation and a guessing game.

Simplicity drives adoption—and adoption makes the data trustworthy.

In an enterprise environment where broader platforms constantly offer time tracking as an add-on feature, ClickTime's purpose-built focus keeps end-user friction low and approvals timely. The financial data is only as good as the compliance behind it—and compliance follows simplicity.

"ClickTime lets us shield users from complexity. Users get to see their timesheet, enter hours, and click submit. On the back end it's configured to give us exactly what we need. For a broader platform, time writing would be an add-on that has to fit into a larger data model—much more complicated. Simplicity and visibility are what ClickTime has delivered for us."

Looking Ahead

Eindhoven-Netherlands-Campus-NXP

NXP is connecting planning data more tightly with the project actuals that live in ClickTime—building toward a world where historical cost data doesn't just explain the past but actively shapes what gets funded next.

At the intersection of engineering execution and financial accountability, ClickTime turns the hours people work into the numbers that drive decisions. For NXP, that's not a nice-to-have. It's how the business runs.
